First Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), a reformed denomination that was established in 1973. The PCA’s mission is to be: “Faithful to the Scriptures, true to the Reformed faith, and obedient to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ." Although the history of the PCA only goes back to 1973, our theological heritage goes back to the Protestant Reformation.
First Presbyterian Church was established in 1900 in downtown Dothan. We moved to our current location in 1973. We have a daycare ministry, preschool ministry and a classical Christian school.
As a church, we are committed to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, to proclaiming Him in our city and among the nations, and to growing in His grace so that we may be able to live lives pleasing to Him.
Our motto is based on John 17:3 where, in His high priestly prayer, Jesus said, “And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”. (ESV)
The purpose of this motto is to express in a brief, memorable phrase our focus and purpose. Our motto is shared with other Christian churches and institutions which helps us remember that we are part of a much larger family of faith, the Church of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
So, what is our motto? “Knowing God and Making Him Known”
May this motto guide and guard us individually and corporately in our worship, work, and witness for the Lord.
