Mary's encounter with the angel brings about four effects expressed in Mary's Magnificat which are akin to what all believers experience when faced with the glory of God. The first is that Mary is aware of God working, knowing that Christ now dwells in her. The second is that Mary is amazed that God would choose even her to show grace and salvation to her. The third is that Mary is humbled because of Christ's work, a humility that springs from understanding who she is and being consumed with God's greatness. The fourth is that she rejoices. As with Mary, the Spirit enlarges our heart through Christ, and Christ is both our Lord to be obeyed and our portion to be enjoyed. Obedience and joy are inseparably linked, and in every way through Christ, God is our best good.
